FedEx to offer two-hour delivery through SameDay Local initiative
Executive Summary

FedEx launched SameDay Local on March 24, offering two-hour delivery to help retailers compete on speed. 80% of consumers want same-day options at checkout, and 50% are more likely to purchase when it's available.

Our Take

This is a logistics weapon for brick-and-mortar-adjacent sellers and brands with local inventory — not pure marketplace sellers. If you run a hybrid model (own storefront + marketplace), same-day fulfillment coverage could justify shifting some high-velocity SKUs off Amazon FBA to reduce fees while still winning on speed.

What This Means

FedEx is directly challenging Amazon's same-day delivery moat, intensifying competitive pressure on marketplace logistics and giving off-platform sellers a credible speed parity play — a signal that last-mile consolidation is accelerating.

Key Takeaways

Check your top 20 SKUs by conversion rate -- if cart abandonment is high on fast-moving items, pilot FedEx SameDay Local fulfillment for those SKUs on your DTC site to recapture lost sales without marketplace fee drag.

In the next 30 days, audit whether your warehouse or 3PL locations overlap with FedEx SameDay Local coverage zones -- brands with local inventory positioning gain immediate competitive advantage over pure FBA sellers.

Bottom Line

FedEx two-hour delivery gives hybrid sellers a speed weapon outside Amazon.

FedEx Corp. has announced its rollout of what it calls FedEx SameDay Local, which will offer two-hour delivery among other fulfillment options. The carrier announced its rollout March 24. It said the offering is designed to help FedEx “meet rising consumer expectations for flexibility, control, and convenience while balancing their cost to serve.”

Jason Brenner, senior vice president of digital portfolio at FedEx, said the carrier is supporting its customers by “pushing the boundaries of their value proposition around speed and convenience.”

“FedEx SameDay Local will provide our customers with a scaled solution to give the delivery options customers want, without adding complexity to their operations,” he said in a statement. FedEx cited its own Future of Logistics Intelligence Report, which found that more than a third (36%) of consumers prioritize reliable delivery windows.

It also cited research from Invesp that indicates 96% of consumers define “fast delivery” as same-day. The study, which Invesp published in January, also found that 80% of consumers want a same-day option at checkout. And half of consumers are more likely to complete a purchase when same-day delivery is available.
