Free Driver Rewards Program? Samsara Targets Retention
Samsara launched Driver Perks in September 2025, a free rewards program giving truck drivers discounts from 50+ brands including 24 Hour Fitness, Audible, and Pit Boss Grills — tens of thousands of drivers visited within weeks of launch. Program targets fleet retention and telematics adoption, not ecommerce or marketplace operations.
Samsara is expanding from telematics into workforce retention software — a platform consolidation play in fleet tech, not retail commerce.
This has zero direct impact on Amazon, Walmart, or Target sellers. The only tangential angle: tighter driver retention tools could marginally reduce carrier turnover, which affects freight rate volatility for brands shipping FTL or LTL.

Samsara breaks down why drivers said they feel underappreciated, what fleets can offer at no cost, and how a 50+ brand perks program is getting traction with drivers. In this conversation, Kelly Soderlund explains what drivers asked for, why wellness and family time ranked high, and how fleets can use recognition to support adoption, morale and retention.
#TruckDriverRetention #FleetManagement #DriverPerksSamsara used September’s self-declared Driver Appreciation Month to launch Driver Perks, a national rewards program that gives professional drivers free access to discounts from more than 50 brands spanning food and beverage, fitness, wellness, and travel — with no cost to drivers or their employers.
The rollout marks a deliberate expansion of Samsara’s platform beyond telematics and into workforce retention, a priority for fleets struggling to hold onto qualified drivers.
Tens of thousands of drivers visited the perks site within weeks of launch, and offer redemptions have been running at a high clip, according to Kelly Soderlund, Samsara’s Head of Insights.
Partners include 24 Hour Fitness, Audible, Truck Parking Club, Pit Boss Grills, and Better Sleep, a lineup shaped directly by driver surveys and a standing Samsara Driver Council that includes short-haul, last-mile, commuter, and long-haul operators.
“It’s the first rewards program built for professional drivers that is at no cost to them or their employees,” Soderlund said, adding that fleets view it as a turnkey retention benefit they can offer without the overhead of building and managing such a program themselves. Driver feedback drove the category mix.
Soderlund said the team expected convenience items to top the list but found that fitness memberships, audiobooks, and travel ranked highest — a signal that drivers prioritize off-road well-being and family time. One unanticipated finding: strong demand for portable grills and outdoor cooking gear, prompting the Pit Boss Grills partnership.
Alongside the perks rollout, Samsara ran the Driver Cup, a competition scored on actual telematics data measuring safety, compliance, and efficiency. Winners represented the top 1% of drivers nationally.
Samsara staff traveled in person to award recipients — first to the Tillamook factory in Oregon, then to Crum Trucking in Indiana, where roughly 60 team members gathered to celebrate their drivers. The company also placed driver recognition advertising in Times Square in New York.
The business rationale for focusing on individual drivers — rather than solely on the fleet customers who pay Samsara’s bills — is straightforward, Soderlund said. “They’re the ones who are gonna have to, at the end of the day, be adopting the technology,” she said. “They’re on the front lines.”
Fleets deploying new telematics tools depend on driver buy-in, making satisfaction a direct factor in product stickiness. Samsara framed the September initiative as the start of a sustained effort rather than a standalone campaign.
The company noted National Truckers Day on October 4 as an immediate next milestone and said it plans to continue in-person recognition events, expand the perks marketplace based on ongoing driver input, and incorporate appreciation features throughout its core product — including in-app kudos and safety milestone competitions that already run year-round.
Samsara’s Driver Perks program offers discounts from more than 50 brands at no cost to drivers or fleets, with tens of thousands of drivers visiting the platform within weeks of launch.
The Driver Cup competition recognized the top 1% of drivers nationally based on safety, compliance, and efficiency data, with in-person award events at Tillamook in Oregon and Crum Trucking in Indiana.
Fleets are positioned as beneficiaries of the program through improved retention and a ready-made employee benefit requiring no internal overhead to build or manage.
