Marketplace Pressure Index

Where is attention building? Each row compares a marketplace or topic's share of the last 7 days of relevant, AI-classified coverage with its usual weekly share. An index of 2.0x means it is taking twice its normal slice of the conversation. Because the index uses shares, not raw counts, changes in how many articles we collect overall do not move it.

Coverage intensity, not market size.

Top mover, week ending Oct 20, 2026

Target 1.17x

12.0% of relevant coverage in the last 7 days (14 articles) vs a usual 10.2% (14.2 articles per week).

Total relevant coverage: 117 articles in the last 7 days vs a usual 148.7 per week (0.79x). The index already adjusts for this.

How the index works

  • The Marketplace Pressure Index extends the monthly coverage pressure analysis in our Intelligence Dossier to a weekly cadence. It is a coverage-intensity measure.
  • We count relevant, AI-classified articles from our fixed source panel, by platform tag and by topic, and divide by all relevant articles in the same week. That gives each key's share of coverage.
  • The baseline is that key's average weekly share over the trailing 12 full weeks before the current week. Weeks with unusually low total volume (under a quarter of a typical week, e.g. outages) are skipped.
  • Index = share in the last 7 days ÷ baseline share. Using shares means that if our overall article volume doubles, every index stays near 1.0x; only a genuine shift in attention moves it. Raw article counts are shown alongside.
  • Keys averaging under one article a week are left out. Keys with fewer than 3 articles in the last 7 days are listed but not ranked, since small counts swing widely.
  • Limits: this measures publisher attention, not sales, demand or market size. A spike says "investigate", not "act". In our archive, a sustained rise in logistics coverage preceded mainstream holiday freight commentary by about two months; that pattern is logged in the forecast scorecard process rather than treated as proven.
