Did TikTok Shop raise its fee to 8% in 2026? What's confirmed, and how to check yours
Not officially. TikTok's US referral fee table, dated October 8, 2026, still lists 6% for most categories. Several trade blogs report that most non-food categories moved to 8% on August 4, 2026, but none of them cites a TikTok notice, and we couldn't find one. The one place that settles it for your shop is the referral fee line on your own settlement report. The steps are below.
What TikTok publishes
- 6% for almost every US category, per TikTok's “Referral Fees by Category” table (page dated 10/08/2026). Five fine-jewelry sub-categories (Diamond, Gold, Jade, Platinum & Carat Gold, and Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald) and the Pre-Owned categories are 5%. On Collectibles and Pre-Owned sales, the portion above $10,000 is charged 3%. “TikTok Shop Referral Fees in 2024 by Category”
- The formula: Referral Fee Rate × (Customer Payment + Platform Discount − Tax). TikTok notes that the base includes shipping the customer paid. “TikTok Shop Referral Fees in 2024 by Category”
- The 6% dates from April 1, 2024, and TikTok says it will use “reasonable efforts” to notify sellers by email or in their account about 30 days before material changes. “TikTok Shop Referral Fee Updates - 2024”
- Refunds: TikTok returns the referral fee minus a Refund Administration Fee of 20% of that fee, capped at $5 per SKU since May 15, 2025. “TikTok Shop Referral Fee Updates - 2024”
Where the 8% comes from
The 8% figure comes from independent seller blogs, not from TikTok. Here is what each one says, with its date:
- Delzonic: TikTok Shop Fee Increase 2026: The New 8% Rate
Published Aug 28, 2026. Says the standard US referral fee for most non-food categories rose from 6% to 8% on Aug 4, 2026, with some beauty and electronics sub-categories at 9.5% to 11%. Cites no TikTok document.
- FBA Tactics: TikTok Shop US Referral Fee Now 8%: What Changed on August 4, 2026
Published Aug 25, 2026, updated Sep 5, 2026. Dates the 6% to 8% move to Aug 4, 2026 from trade coverage, notes TikTok issued no press release, and tells sellers to confirm on their settlement statement.
- beBOLD Digital: TikTok Shop's Reported 8% Fee: What Sellers Should Know
Published Sep 8, 2026, updated Sep 14, 2026. Treats 8% as a reported change: TikTok's public category table still showed mostly 5% to 6%, so sellers should confirm their rate in Seller Center and on settlement statements.
- Ecommerce Times: TikTok Shop's Q4 2026 Seller Fee Overhaul Is Reshaping DTC Margins
Gives a different account: an 8% rate starting Oct 1, 2026, announced Aug 11, plus new fees. We found no TikTok page that supports either date.
Our read as of October 21, 2026: TikTok has published no 8% rate that we can find. Its category table is dated October 8, 2026, two months after the reported change, and it still shows 6%. The reports don't agree on the date either. That doesn't prove nobody is being charged 8%, since individual accounts, promotions and category moves can differ from the public table. So we use 6% in our TikTok Shop fee tables and show the 8% case next to it. We'll update this page and the change log if TikTok publishes a new rate.
What 6% vs 8% means in dollars
These are single-item orders with no shipping, discount or tax, so the fee base equals the sale price. Moving from 6% to 8% raises the referral fee by a third on every order.
| Order | At 6% (published) | At 8% (reported) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 sale | $0.60 | $0.80 | +$0.20 |
| $20 sale | $1.20 | $1.60 | +$0.40 |
| $25 sale | $1.50 | $2.00 | +$0.50 |
| $50 sale | $3.00 | $4.00 | +$1.00 |
| $100 sale | $6.00 | $8.00 | +$2.00 |
A realistic order, using TikTok's formula
A $25 product, $4 shipping paid by the customer, a $3 TikTok-funded discount and $2 sales tax. The customer pays $28.00. The fee base is $28.00 + $3.00 − $2.00 = $29.00, which is the product plus shipping. The referral fee is $1.74 at 6% or $2.32 at 8%, a difference of $0.58. TikTok adds its own discounts back into the base, so a TikTok-funded discount doesn't lower your fee. A discount you fund yourself does, because the customer pays less.
Per month
- $10,000 in fee base: $600 at 6% vs $800 at 8%, so $200 more a month.
- $50,000 in fee base: $3,000 at 6% vs $4,000 at 8%, so $1,000 more a month.
- $250,000 in fee base: $15,000 at 6% vs $20,000 at 8%, so $5,000 more a month.
Against your margin
Hypothetically, take a $25.00 item that leaves $3.00 profit after every cost at 6%. At 8% it pays $0.50 more in fees and keeps $2.50, so profit falls 17% even though the rate only rose two points. Refunds cost a little more too: on a fully refunded $25 item the Refund Administration Fee is $0.30 at 6% and $0.40 at 8%.

How to check the rate on your settlement report
These steps follow TikTok's help article “How to Access Your Settlement Report” (dated 09/11/2025). Menu names and column labels are TikTok's, but TikTok updates Seller Center often, so yours may look slightly different.
- Export the report. In Seller Center, go to Finances > Statements (or Payouts), click Export, and choose a date range. Pick one that covers orders from before and after August 4, 2026 so you can compare. The file appears under Export History, where you click Download.
- Open the Order details sheet. TikTok says this sheet breaks settlement down by SKU, fees included.
- Pick clean orders. Use completed orders with no refund, no adjustment, and an empty Ads referral fee discount column. That column lowers the referral fee on orders from the Shop Ads incentive.
- Rebuild the fee base. Add Customer payment and Platform discounts, then subtract Sales tax payment (and Retail delivery fee payment on Colorado orders, which TikTok's own example treats the same way as tax).
- Divide. Divide the Referral fee amount, ignoring any minus sign, by that base. About 0.06 means you're paying the published 6%, about 0.08 means 8%, and 0.05 fits the jewelry and Pre-Owned rate. Rounding to the cent can shift the result slightly on small orders.
- Compare dates. If orders created after August 4, 2026 come out at 0.08 and earlier ones at 0.06, your rate changed. Look for the notice in your Seller Center messages and email, since TikTok says it notifies sellers of material changes.
Worked check: an order with Customer payment $28.00, Platform discounts $3.00 and Sales tax payment $2.00 has a base of $29.00. A Referral fee of $1.74 divided by $29.00 is 0.06, or 6%. A fee of $2.32 would be 0.08, or 8%.
Common questions
- Did TikTok Shop raise its referral fee to 8% in 2026?
- Not according to TikTok's own documents. TikTok's US "Referral Fees by Category" table, dated October 8, 2026, still lists 6% for most categories (5% for some jewelry and Pre-Owned). Several trade blogs, including Delzonic and FBA Tactics, report that most non-food categories moved to 8% on August 4, 2026, but none cites a TikTok notice, and we found none as of October 21, 2026. Your settlement statement is the only reliable check for your own shop.
- How much more is 8% than 6% on a $20 TikTok Shop sale?
- On a $20 order with no shipping, discount or tax, the referral fee is $1.20 at 6% and $1.60 at 8%, a difference of $0.40. Going from 6% to 8% raises the fee by a third.
- What is the TikTok Shop referral fee calculated on?
- TikTok's formula is Referral Fee Rate × (Customer Payment + Platform Discount − Tax), and the base includes any shipping the customer paid. Example: a $25 product with $4 shipping, a $3 TikTok-funded discount and $2 tax has a base of $29.00, so the fee is $1.74 at 6% or $2.32 at 8%.
- How do I check which referral rate TikTok Shop is charging me?
- Export your settlement report (in Seller Center, Finances > Statements or Payouts, then Export), open the Order details sheet, and for a completed order with no refund divide the Referral fee by (Customer payment + Platform discounts − Sales tax payment). About 0.06 means 6%; about 0.08 means 8%.
- Does the refund administration fee go up if the rate is 8%?
- Yes, because it is 20% of the referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU. On a fully refunded $25 item it would be $0.30 at 6% and $0.40 at 8%.
