Lowe’s launches drone delivery in partnership with Wing, DoorDash

Lowe’s said it has become the first home improvement retailer to offer drone delivery for online orders, working with Alphabet’s Wing and DoorDash on deliveries. The newest fulfillment method delivers select home improvement products directly to Lowe’s DIY and Pro customers in as fast as 20 minutes, the retailer said.

Its drone delivery pilot is now live at Lowe’s store in Matthews, North Carolina, and it adds to the retailer’s same-day fulfillment options. The other options include buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS), curbside pickup and same-day delivery. Lowe’s is No. 9 in the Top 1000 Database.

The market research tool tracks North America’s largest online retailers, ranking them by annual ecommerce sales and more. Lowe’s is also No. 90 in Digital Commerce 360’s new AI Rankings. That set of rankings is available in the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database.

Consumers can order Lowe’s products for delivery through the DoorDash app, which Wing drones will then deliver. The retailer said its initial pilot is limited to “a curated list of eligible products.” The pilot program includes more than 100 SKUs.

Those include: All-purpose cleaner Caulk Hand tools Household batteries Paint products such as painter’s tape Screwdrivers Soap Lowe’s said it’s testing its last-mile fulfillment by using its physical stores as hubs for staging drone dispatch areas.

That process integrates DoorDash’s third-party marketplace demand into specialized drone delivery, the retailer said. A worker prepares a package for a partnered delivery for Lowe’s, DoorDash and Wing.

It noted Mylow, Lowe’s AI assistant for customers, and Mylow Companion, its AI-powered assistant for store associates, as recent innovations.

Together, the two assistants have helped answer more than 25 million questions since launching in 2025, according to Lowe’s. “Home improvement is an inherently friction-filled experience,” said Seemantini Godbole, chief information and AI officer at Lowe’s.

“Any technology we implement is designed to eliminate that friction so our customers can complete their projects quickly. By piloting drone delivery, we’re addressing a real project pain point with an innovative solution that is integrated into the retail journey, giving our hometown customers next-generation fulfillment right when they need it.”
