Full Coverage
Amazon is launching a “You Buy, We Donate” initiative in support of the National Year of Reading 2026 which aims to get more books into the hands of families across the UK.
From today until 20 September 2026, for every two books purchased from a specially selected range, an additional book will be donated to The Multibank, helping more people experience the joy of reading.
The Multibank, supported by principal partner Amazon, distributes surplus goods to families in need through a nationwide network of charities and community organisations.
Amazon has teamed up with UK publishers including Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and DK to curate the selected range, which includes the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon, How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, and the Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman.
The Multibank charity supports families across the UK by putting surplus products donated by businesses into the hands of those who need them most. From clothing, crockery, and cleaning products to toiletries, towels, and toys, The Multibank distributes essential goods through community partners across the country.
Through “You Buy, We Donate”, books will join the range of products reaching families and communities through the charity.
The initiative forms part of Amazon’s support for the UK government-backed National Year of Reading 2026 which seeks to encourage people of all ages to reconnect with reading as a meaningful, modern and social activity, and encourage more people to discover the joy of reading through the things they already love.
This is Amazon’s fifth “You Buy, We Donate” initiative supporting The Multibank, and the first teaming up with UK publishers to donate books, with this latest initiative focused on getting more books into the hands of families across the UK.
It brings together titles for different ages and interests, with participating publishers including Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and Dorling Kindersley donating books to support the initiative. Amongst the books available in ‘You Buy, We Donate’ are: Where’s Horrid Henry? By Francesca Simon Winnie the Pooh by A. A.
Milne How To Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell Ridiculous Raps and Rhymes by Michael Rosen and MC Grammar The Sleepover Sabotage by Marcus Rashford The Heartstopper Series by Alice Oseman The wider selection includes thousands of books spanning every reading stage, from early years and picture books to early readers, middle grade and young adult titles, giving customers the chance to discover their family’s next read while helping another family experience the joy of sharing a story.
There’s nothing quite like sharing a story. Whether it’s discovering a new favourite character, talking about the pictures on a page or reading the same book together again, those small moments can help build a lifelong connection with reading. That’s why we’re proud to support the National Year of Reading with ‘You Buy, We Donate’.
By simply choosing their family’s next read, our customers can help another family discover a new story too, with a book donated to The Multibank for every two purchased from the selected range.
– Lisa de Meyer, Country Manager, Amazon Books UK The Multibank charity is very grateful to the participating publishers – Hachette, Macmillan, Dorling Kindersley and Simon & Schuster – and Amazon, our Principal Partner, for running this campaign which will deliver thousands of incredible, free to access books directly into local communities.
This collaboration will add impetus to literacy projects and promote family reading time across the country. Helping to boost happier, dreamier and more imaginative childhoods. – Bob Garmory, CEO, The Multibank The National Year of Reading is about making reading feel relevant, accessible and part of everyday life.
A vital part of that is helping more families have books of their own to discover and share together. Amazon has been a fantastic partner to the campaign, and we’re delighted to see that commitment continue through ‘You Buy, We Donate’, helping The Multibank get more books into the hands of families and communities across the UK.
– David Hayman, campaign director of the National Year of Reading The Multibank has already distributed more than 16 million items to support over two million families in need across the UK – with 9 million items donated directly via Amazon since the charity was founded.
Customers can take part in Amazon’s ‘You Buy, We Donate’ from now until the 20th of September 2026 at amazon. co. uk/youbuywedonate. For every two eligible books purchased from the participating selection, one additional book will be donated to The Multibank.
