Container Store Preps for Bed Bath & Beyond-ification with 30% SKU Reduction

Bed Bath & Beyond acquired The Container Store for $150M and will integrate products into 98 stores starting May 2026, with Container Store liquidating 30% of SKUs to make shelf space.
This creates immediate liquidation inventory opportunities for home/organization sellers to source products at steep discounts during the April 24-26 clearance event. Watch for Container Store's private label suppliers to seek new retail partnerships as shelf space shrinks.
Physical retail consolidation continues forcing inventory into online channels, creating both sourcing opportunities and increased competition for home goods sellers.

The Container Store will launch a “Store Changing” event on April 24, as the retailer’s 98 stores prepare for the phased integration of Bed Bath & Beyond products. Earlier this month, Bed Bath & Beyond finalized its purchase of The Container Store for $150 million in a deal that also included the Elfa and Closet Works businesses.
As part of the reset, the retailer will liquidate approximately 30% of select categories and SKUs to streamline its assortments and improve space productivity, creating room for new products that are expected to arrive in phases later in 2026.
These stores will transition to The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond format, the company’s future operating model, beginning in May. “This is a reset with a purpose,” said Jen Pape, SVP of Stores at The Container Store in a statement. “We are actively reshaping our stores to make room for what’s next.
By streamlining select categories today, we’re creating the space and flexibility needed to introduce Bed Bath & Beyond products and deliver a more complete home experience for our customers.”
For a limited time while the resets are taking place, customers can shop “meaningful” price reductions across a brand range of merchandise, according to a company statement, and stores will open one hour early on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, to reward early-bird shoppers with an additional 5% discount.
The Container Store went private in January 2025 following a brief Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2024.
