Mondelēz International reported mixed progress on its sustainable sourcing goals in 2025, hitting its benchmarks for cocoa and palm oil while seeing a slight decline in the share of dairy supply from providers with formal animal‑welfare standards, according to the global snacking company’s annual report released earlier this year.

Mondelēz achieved its goal of sourcing 100% of cocoa volume for its chocolate brands through the company's Cocoa Life global sustainability program, up from 91% the previous year. Launched in 2012, Cocoa Life aims to eliminate deforestation and child labor in cocoa supply chains while improving farmers’ welfare.

The initiative uses independent third-party verification to track cocoa volumes from participating communities. Mondelēz maintained 100% sustainably sourced palm oil volume, as defined by full certification under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

The RSPO is a nonprofit global membership organization that sets and enforces standards for sustainable palm oil production and procurement. The share of eggs obtained from suppliers with cage-free hens — considered a more humane practice — increased from 66% in 2024 to 82% in the latest report.

These percentages exclude eggs from Russia, Ukraine, China, Morocco and Vietnam. Mondelēz aims to reach 100% cage-free eggs by 2027, excluding those five countries. By 2030, it hopes to achieve the same percentage in Vietnam, while continuing to address supply challenges for cage-free eggs in other regions, according to the 2025 report.

However, the share of dairy supply sourced from providers with formal animal welfare standards fell from 67% in 2024 to 65% in 2025. Mondelēz did not respond to a request for comment on this decrease. Beyond sourcing, Mondelēz reported an 18% reduction in absolute water use at priority sites in 2025, surpassing its 10% goal, with 2018 as the baseline.

Priority sites are located in high or extremely high water-risk zones, as ranked by the World Resources Institute. Absolute water use excludes rainwater captured and used on-site, as well as water that is drawn and then returned unaltered to natural sources, per Mondelēz’s report.

The company reduced greenhouse gas emissions across its manufacturing operations by 45% in 2025, with 2018 as the baseline, according to the report. In 2024, the company achieved a 37% reduction.
