Retailers sign on for Firmly agentic commerce platform

Firmly launched Connect, a no-code platform letting retailers plug into AI shopping agents, with Best Buy and Backcountry as early adopters as of March 2026. This creates a new distribution layer where AI agents — not humans — initiate purchases on behalf of shoppers.
As AI agents start completing purchases autonomously, product data quality and structured content (titles, attributes, specs) become the algorithm's buying signal — not your ad spend. Sellers ignoring agentic readiness now will lose ground when AI-driven demand channels scale.
Agentic commerce adds a non-marketplace distribution layer that bypasses traditional search and sponsored ads, accelerating AI disruption of the discovery-to-purchase funnel that Amazon and Walmart currently dominate.
Audit your product content completeness score in Amazon's Manage Your Inventory or Walmart Seller Center -- structured attributes are what AI agents parse to match buyer intent.
In the next 30 days, research whether your ecommerce platform (Shopify, BigCommerce) has API or plugin support for agentic commerce tools like Firmly to avoid being locked out of emerging channels.

Full Coverage
Agentic commerce technology provider Firmly has announced that retailers are using its newest platform offering to “more easily sell” through developing AI channels. In late March, the tech company introduced what it called Firmly Connect.
It described Firmly Connect as a no-code onboarding platform for online retailers that integrates with merchants’ existing websites and other commerce infrastructure. Among the Firmly feature’s early users are consumer electronics retailer Best Buy and sporting goods seller Backcountry.
Kevin Lenau, president of Backcountry’s family of brands, said in the announcement that agentic commerce will represent an important shift in digital retail. It will open “entirely new demand channels through AI agents, and emerging vertical shopping apps,” Lenau said.
“The challenge has always been how complex and resource-intensive it is to integrate any new individual channel.” Best Buy is No. 8 in the Top 2000, and Backcountry is No. 91. The Top 2000 Database is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest North American online retailers.
